Security Analyst

Position
We are seeking an IT support engineer to assume a placement as Security Analyst within the Public Sector - CNI & Defence department within MOD Corsham for the next 6 months. You will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust cybersecurity practices. Following the completion of the placement, you will be placed within our core support team with the opportunity to take a new placement when one becomes available.

Main Duties
  • Threat Monitoring: Continuously monitor security systems to detect and respond to potential threats. Analyse alerts, reports, and events to investigate suspicious activities.
  • Incident Response: Assist in managing security incidents, including breaches and attacks. Develop remediation strategies and restore systems to a secure state.
  • Vulnerability Assessment: Conduct regular assessments and penetration testing to identify network and system weaknesses. Recommend and implement remediation strategies.
  • Security Policy and Compliance: Develop and enforce security policies to ensure compliance with regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS).
  • Risk Management: Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate security threats.
  • Security Tools Management: Manage and optimize tools such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, and SIEM systems.
  • Incident Documentation and Reporting: Document security incidents and prepare detailed reports for stakeholders.
  • Security Awareness: Promote security best practices and deliver training sessions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about cybersecurity trends and recommend improvements to security practices.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing ongoing security guidance and advice.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Experience with cybersecurity tools and technologies (e.g., Nessus, Qualys, Burp Suite, SIEM).
  • Strong knowledge of system and network architecture.
  • Proven experience in performing vulnerability assessments and managing security incidents.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse complex security issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Experience with Microsoft security tools (e.g., Azure Security).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and clients.
  • Project management exposure

Notes
37.5 hours a week Mon-Fri.  Due to the nature of the job some occasional work at weekends and outside of normal hours may be required.
Travel to customer sites may be required so the ability to travel as and when required needs to be considered.

This role requires a DBS and BPSS security checks.
